A sweeping country estate restoration marrying a 17th-century Jacobean manor with an ultra-contemporary structural glass pavilion. Completely off-grid sustainable energy integration concealed within historic outbuildings.
The Design Intent
Kellingford Studio sought to celebrate the raw, time-worn texture of local Cotswold rubble stone alongside whisper-quiet architectural glass, honed English ash joinery, and antique patinated copper.
The Engineering Challenge
Integrating underfloor heating beneath original reclaimed flagstones without altering finished floor thresholds, while routing 14-borehole ground-source geothermal loops through protected parkland.
The Execution Approach
Each historical flagstone was numbered, lifted, re-dressed on the reverse to uniform thickness, and reinstalled over insulated screed with breathable lime-based grouting. Heritage and green energy harmonized effortlessly.
